Different Types of Love in Midsummer Night’s Dream Love and lovers, both can be described as many different things. William Shakespeare shows us this in his play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In this play we see all types of love, from passionate love to foolish love. Along with this we also see different types of lovers and pairs. Examples of these lovers come from pairs like, Hermia and Lysander, Demetrius and Helena, Titana and Bottom, and Oberon and Titana. It seems that in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare shows different types of love and lovers. One love that Shakespeare shows in Midsummer is passion. Passion is a burning emotion, a strong feeling or a desire that is deep within your soul. She asks Hermia to teach her the art of her beauty and win the affection of Demetrius heart. The last character that shows jealousy is Hermia. She shows Jealousy when Lysander is spelled, and falls for Helena. While under a spell, Lysander tells Hermia: Ay, by my life And never did desire to see thee more. Therefore be out of hope, of question, of doubt: Be certain. Nothing truer. `Tis no jest That I do hate thee and love Helena (3.2.277-281) In these lines Lysander tells Hermia that, never did he desire to be with someone more. He also tells her to not question or doubt, but to be certain that he hates her and loves Helena. With Hermia shocked and heartbroken she shows her confusion and jealously to Helena. He states, â€Å"O me! You juggler, you canker blossom, / You thief of love! What, have you come by night/ And stol’n my love’s heart from him?† (3.2.282). In these lines Hermia is telling Helena that she is a trickster/cheater, and a love thief. She also asks what have Helena done to steal Lysander’s love from her.
